Former Special Projects Partnerships

Our partnerships during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic with Primavera Coffee and Coffee at Large are excellent examples of the outreach achieved through The Chain Collaborative’s Special Projects. As a result of the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns in 2020, both coffee farmers and baristas faced significant challenges. In Guatemala, where Primavera Coffee Importers serves and operates, farmers faced increased costs and declining demand for specialty coffee. Meanwhile, baristas in Washington state – where the worker advocacy organization Coffee at Large was born – faced months without work and decent pay. With support from The Chain Collaborative, both Primavera and Coffee at Large launched relief funds.

With support from TCC, Primavera Coffee and Coffee at Large:

  • Collaborated with roasters and coffee companies worldwide to raise over $30,000 USD for baristas in Washington state, and almost $10,000 USD for farmers in Guatemala
  • Put together 205 food baskets for small-scale coffee producing families, providing four weeks worth of food per family of five
  • Distribute funds to over 300 baristas struggling to keep up with living expenses during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, providing relief in a time it was needed most
