We are always looking to multiply positive impact in coffee-growing regions around the world.
Whether it be leveraging our network of existing supporters to develop emergency response funds, or partnering with other initiatives that align with our mission and drive change in the sector, we are always looking to expand impact in coffee-growing regions. By creating intentional partnerships that operate outside our normal scope of work, we are able to innovate and forge new collaborations that build our community and expand our mission. Below are some examples of our current and past Collabs.
Now Africa Initiative
Prior to launching the Community-Led Development Incubator, TCC worked one-on-one with community-based organizations to support their growth and visions. Our first-ever partnership was with Now Africa Initiative (NAI), a grassroots farmer organization located in Nyamigoye parish in Kanyantorogo sub-county, Kanungu District, Southwestern Uganda. Founded by local leader Denis Twinamatsiko, NAI’s mission is to play a catalytic role in contributing to the socio-economic transformation of rural Uganda through sustainable agricultural development and educational improvements. Primarily focused on providing services and market access to Robusta coffee farmers, NAI is a robust social enterprise with established social, economic, and environmental programming for adults and children in the region. In honor of our early work with NAI, TCC maintains a strong relationship with them as a current Collabs partner, serving as their fiscal sponsor. To learn more, visit the NAI & KEC webpage.
Karama Education Center
As part of TCC’s early partnership with NAI, we supported the establishment of the Building Tomorrow Primary School of Karama, or the Karama Education Center (KEC), a primary school located in a rural area just outside of the town of Kihiihi in Southwestern Uganda. Built in 2016, with doors opening in 2017, KEC primarily serves the children of NAI coffee farmers. In our early years as an organization, TCC directly supported KEC to launch several school-wide programs, such as an organic school garden initiative and a school library. While our work has shifted to the Community-Led Development Incubator, many TCC donors and partners have remained dedicated to KEC. Through our Collabs model, we are now able to support these donors to continue championing KEC. In addition to offering KEC fiscal sponsorship, we maintain a KEC Scholarship Program, which individuals can back through our donate page. Now Africa Initiative & Karama Education Center
Learn MoreCarbon, Coffee, and Climate
For a period of 3 years (2020-2023), in addition to our community-led development, consulting, and education work, TCC collaborated on a joint initiative. In partnership with Coop Coffees, Root Capital, Sustainable Food Lab, Cool Farm Alliance, and six coffee cooperatives across Peru, Guatemala, and Honduras, we developed and executed a project to apply the Cool Farm Platform (CFP) perennials carbon calculator on coffee farms. Primarily measuring carbon emissions and sequestration, the CFP allows small-scale coffee farmers to track and understand the environmental impact of their production, as well as the changes they can make to improve their practices for greater climate resiliency and crop health. Learning from the project included enhanced awareness of the key drivers of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions on coffee farms, and the best opportunities for improvement, as well as the mechanisms that could be developed to compensate producers for their environmental services.
